Le dernier rapport du GIEC souligne que si rien n\u2019est fait pour r\u00e9duire nos \u00e9missions de gaz \u00e0 effet de serre, l\u2019augmentation de la temp\u00e9rature moyenne du globe pourra fr\u00f4ler les 6\u00b0C en 2100.<\/p>\n<p>Des forages polaires ont permis aux scientifiques d\u2019analyser les variations de temp\u00e9rature subies par la Terre au cours des 800 000 derni\u00e8res ann\u00e9es, variations que l\u2019on sait \u00eatre dues \u00e0 des changements de l&#8217;orbite de la Terre autour du soleil (1). Ainsi lors de la sortie de la derni\u00e8re \u00e8re glaciaire (qui se situe entre -20000 et -10000 ans) la temp\u00e9rature a augment\u00e9 de 5 \u00e0 6\u00b0C, une \u00e9volution identique \u00e0 celle attendue pour la fin du si\u00e8cle dans le pire des cas.<\/p>\n<p>Oui mais \u2026 deux diff\u00e9rences essentielles distinguent la p\u00e9riode actuelle de la derni\u00e8re d\u00e9glaciation : la population mondiale se r\u00e9sumait alors \u00e0 environ un million d\u2019individus, il \u00e9tait d\u00e8s lors plus simple d\u2019envisager des migrations, et par ailleurs cette augmentation de temp\u00e9rature s\u2019est d\u00e9roul\u00e9e sur une p\u00e9riode environ cinquante fois plus longue, de l\u2019ordre de 5000 ans, ce qui a laiss\u00e9 \u00e0 la v\u00e9g\u00e9tation et \u00e0 la faune le temps de s\u2019adapter. Prenons l\u2019exemple des arbres : la moiti\u00e9 des esp\u00e8ces seulement peut migrer \u00e0 des vitesses comprises entre un \u00e0 15 km par d\u00e9cennie (l\u2019autre moiti\u00e9 est plus lente encore). Or, si rien n\u2019est fait, la vitesse de d\u00e9placement des zones climatiques vers les p\u00f4les atteindra, en moyenne, 20 km par d\u00e9cennie et jusqu\u2019\u00e0 70 km par d\u00e9cennie en plaine entre 2050 et 2090 (2).
